Sheffield Hallam University
Sheffield Hallam University run a BA and MA programme in creative writing. It also collaborates with a range of other organisations in the city as well as undertaking research based projects with grassroots community organisations and companies exploring the meeting point between literature and technology.
The MA at SHU has produced more than 40 main-stream published and broadcast writers in the last 18 years. That’s an average of more than two a year (and many more are published in magazines and selective online sites). These include nominees and winners of some of the UK’s most prestigious writing prizes, including: Marina Lewycka (whose best-selling, A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian, was short listed for The Orange Prize and won The Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize); Jill Dawson (Orange Prize short listed); A.J. Ashworth, whose collection of short stories won The Scott Prize in 2011; and current students Sophie Hampton (Winner of the London Magazine Short Story Competition, 2013), and Helen Meller, who won the 2013 BBC Radio Audio Award for the Best Audio Drama (Series or Serial).
